Zoey’s special playlist fans are getting their Christmas presents earlier this year. After being canceled on NBC after 25 episodes, the show will, in fact, continue — as a holiday TV series.
Written by series creator Austin Winsberg and directed by Richard Shepard, who directed the series’ pilot, Zoey’s Unusual Christmas will start from where the program left off. The film will follow Zoey (Jane Levy) after her father’s death, as she tries to make a special Christmas for her family like he did. Fans will be happy to know that the series will also wrap up the loose end of the second season.

The holiday special is coming to the Roku Channel on Wednesday, December 1. (It’s also the first feature-length film produced by the platform.)

Original series cast to return: Alongside Levy reprising her lead role, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar, David St. Louis, Mary Steenburgen, Peter Gallagher, and Bernadette Peters will appear in the sequel.
WILL ZOEY’S OUTSIDE LIST RENEWED FOR THE THIRD SEASON?
As of now, there hasn’t been any official announcement that Roku will continue the series for a third season, so its future remains unclear. However, there reported there was some talk regarding other episodes of Zoey’s special playlist be ordered, if the holiday movie does well enough. Despite that, the movie would be a sure-fire ending to the story, if it ends there.
