How to watch movies – WWD

Cinema’s biggest night is coming, with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed Nominated for the 94th Annual Academy Awards on Tuesday.

This year, the number of films in the coveted Best Picture category increased to 10, exploring themes and plots such as politics, love, race and family, among others.

On the list, “The Power of the Dog” and “Dune” earned the most nods, receiving 12 and 10 nominations, respectively. Other major contenders with major nominations include “West Side Story,” “Belfast,” and “King Richard.”

Based on the life of writer and director Kenneth Branagh, the coming-of-age comedy-drama follows a boy’s childhood in Belfast, Ireland, at the start of The Troubles in 1969. The Troubles, also known as the Northern Irish Conflict, was an ethnic-nationalist conflict that began in the late 60’s to the late 90’s. The film seems to be the “most personal” of the series. Branagh. It stars Jude Hill, Judi Dench, Caitríona Balfe, Jamie Dornan and Ciarán Hinds.

Branagh broke Oscar records when he received seven nominations in seven different categories for directing, producing and writing the screenplay for “Belfast”. Not only was he nominated for Best Picture, but he was also nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

This remake by Steven Spielberg marks the second feature-length film adaptation of the popular 1957 musical of the same name. “West Side Story” explores the modern-day Romeo and Juliet plot with two teenage street gangs. Of different ethnic backgrounds, the Jets and Sharks, who battle each other in New York City. Tony and Maria, however, fall in love in vain despite their association with different groups.

It stars Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, and Rita Moreno, who appeared in the original 1961 film adaptation as Anita, for which she won an Academy Award for Actress best sub.
