How to upgrade and renovate your farm

Farm expansion and renovation is a primary goal for many Stardew Valley players, although it can be difficult to calculate the cost early on.
Stardew Valley is all about gentle progression, as players grow crops, make friends, and uncover the secrets of Pelican Town. The game begins with the player inheriting their grandfather’s farm in the main house Stardew Valley. Unfortunately, the farm was in pretty bad shape to begin with and a lot of hard work was needed to improve it.
One of the biggest goals for most players in Stardew Valley will restore the farmhouse itself, starting as a single room. However, building a farm and adding new rooms and features can be very expensive, so you should plan to upgrade in advance.
Where to upgrade the farmhouse?
Not like many Stardew Valleyfeatures of, farmhouse upgrades are available right from the start of the game. For starters, head to Robin and Demetrius’s home Carpenter Shop, which can be found in the Mountains area north of Pelican Town.
Robin is the town carpenter, and her store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. It closes an hour early on Fridays and only opens on Tuesdays if it rains. Talk to Robin at the counter to check the list of available upgrades and improvements to the farm.
How to upgrade farmhouse
There are three basic upgrades for farm in Stardew Valley, each being more expensive than the last, as well as a series of free improvements that are only available when the player has a fully upgraded farm:
Upgraded version | Description | Cost |
1 . house upgrade | Add a bedroom as well as a functional kitchen. | 10,000g, 450 wood |
2 . house upgrade | Added two new rooms, including one with a baby bed and crib, allowing players to have children. At the same time expand the bedroom and kitchen. | 50,000g, 150 hardwood |
3 house upgrade | Added a vault below the kitchen, allowing the player to increase the rarity of crafts using the Crates. | 100,000g |
Renovations | ||
Get rid of cribs | Get out of the crib, eliminating the possibility of having a baby. | Free |
Open bedroom | Remove the wall between the bedroom and the entrance area, increasing the space. | Free |
More South Room | One more room below the bedroom. | Free |
More room in the corner | One more room above the bedroom. | Free |
Robin will take three days to build each basic upgrade, though the player is still free to use the house as usual while she’s working. Renovations are completed instantly and, unlike basic upgrades, can be reversed by returning to Robin’s shop. The Pelican Town Carpenter can also be used to build many side structures, allowing the player to keep animals in Stardew Valley.
