How to score points in Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, a MOBA twist based on the classic Pokémon formula, players will not only battle their Pokémon against others but also catch some. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is directly tied to the game’s scoring mechanics, which is the way to win Unity Battles.

After defeating any Pokémon, including those in the wild and controlled by opposing trainers, Pokéballs will drop for the player to collect. Depending on the defeated Pokémon, the player will be rewarded with different numbers of Pokéballs that need to be delivered to the opposing team’s objectives in order to successfully score. Targets that reach the ability will be destroyed, allowing the player to reach deeper parts of their opponent’s side of the map and win the game.

However, scoring may be interrupted by other players. When scoring begins, the player must redirect in place for several seconds before the Pokéballs are scored. During that time, they may be interrupted by opposing players trying to save their goals. And when you are defeated, you lose a large amount of the Pokéballs you collect, allowing the opposing team to pick them up and burn them to your target while you wait for the respawn.

Various items aid the scoring process to both speed it up and prevent others from interfering. Battle items, which can only be used once per match, can both grant your Pokémon and inhibit your opponent from taking a Pokéball and scoring a goal. For example, the Goal-Getter item increases your scoring speed for a short time, while the Slow Smoke slows down a chased opponent. Since these items have limited uses, it’s important to use them at the right time to ensure that your Pokéballs land on your opponent’s goal.

Pokémon UNITE launches on Nintendo Switch on July 21 and mobile devices in late 2021.
