Although using Windows 10 with a password is always recommended to keep your device and files safe and secure from prying eyes, sometimes, depending on the situation, a password can add extra steps to the sign-in process import.

If you have a computer without important files and security is not a concern, Windows 10 has many ways to remove account passwords.

In this instruct, you’ll learn the steps to automatically sign in (or remove the login password) from your Windows 10 device, whether you use a local account or a Microsoft account. (See also this video tutorial in the Pureinfotech YouTube channel to complete this task.)

Turn off password login on Windows 10

If you use a Microsoft account, you can’t completely remove your password because your login information is linked to your online account. However, you can configure your computer to log in automatically to mimic an account without a password.

To bypass password sign-in on Windows 10, use these steps:

  1. Open Begin on Windows 10.

  2. Search netplwiz and click on the top result to open the Control Panel.

  3. In the “Users for this computer” section, select the account to remove the password from.

  4. Erase User must enter username and password to use this computer Selection.

  5. Click Application button.

  6. Confirm Microsoft account information for automatic login.

  7. Click YES button.

  8. Click YES once again.

After you complete the steps, the device will have a password, but it will automatically sign in after each reboot.

Alternatively, you can completely remove your password if you’re using a Microsoft account, but you’ll have to switch to a local account.

Warning: This is a friendly reminder that removing your account password leaves the device vulnerable to local and remote unauthorized access.

Remove password for Microsoft account

To switch to a local account and remove the password, use these steps:

  1. Open Setting.

  2. Click Account.

  3. Click Your information.

  4. Click Sign in with a local account instead Selection.

  5. Click Next button.

  6. Confirm your current password.

  7. Click Next button.

  8. Create a username for the account.

  9. Left “Password” and “Enter the password” empty fields to completely remove the password.

  10. Click Next button.

  11. Click Sign out and finish button.

After you complete the steps, the laptop will no longer connect to your Microsoft account and it will automatically sign you in every time you start the system.

Remove the password for the local account

To remove the Windows 10 password from a local account, use these steps:

  1. Open Setting.

  2. Click Account.

  3. Click Login option.

  4. In the “Manage how you sign in to your device” section, select Password Selection.

  5. Click Change button.

  6. Confirm your current account password.

  7. Click Next button.

  8. Left “Password” and “Enter the password” empty fields to completely remove the password.

  9. Click Next button.

  10. Click End button.

After you complete the steps, you will no longer need a password to access the Windows 10 desktop.

If you want to remove your password just because it’s inconvenient, it’s best to switch to a faster and more secure authentication method, for example: generate PIN or set up a fingerprint reader which only requires a simple swipe of a finger.

Remove login password with Command Prompt

To remove the account password using Command Prompt, use these steps:

  1. Open Begin on Windows 10.

  2. Search Command prompt, right click on the top result and select Run as administrator Selection.

  3. Type the following command to see all accounts and press Into the:

    net user
  4. Type the following command to change the account password and press Into the:

    net user USERNAME *

    In the command, make sure to change ACCOUNT NAME with the standard or admin account name you want to update.

  5. Press Into the twice to clear the password.

After you complete the steps, the account will no longer have a secure password to log in. If you need to set a new password, you can use the same steps, but above step number 5, Specify a new password.

You can only remove passwords using Command Prompt for local accounts. If you have a Microsoft account, you will need to use the online settings or options available through the Account Settings page (see above).
