How to play Path of Champions in Legends of Runeterra

Legend of Runeterra added a new solo roguelike mode called Path of Champions, a massive expansion of the popular Lab of Legends mode introduced in 2020.

Path of Champions builds on the exploration and progression of characters introduced in Saltwater Scourge. Players can choose to follow the story revolving around Jinx or play as one of 15 available champions.

The first time you load into Path of Champions, you’ll play as Jinx during the opening tutorial mission. You’ll fight your way through Piltover and Zaun while learning the mechanics of the mode and gaining Fame as the Jinx. This mode ends with a final boss battle against Vi.

Once done, you’ll unlock the full Path of Champions experience.

Each win and run rewards the player with experience points called Reputation. Fame allows the player to level up and earn buffs, passive powers, and permanent items known as relics.

You can play as Jinx, Vi, Ekko, Caitlyn, Jayce, Miss Fortune, Nami, Pyke, Tahm Kench, Twisted Fate, Irelia, Lee Sin, Lulu, Yasuo and Zed.

You must own two copies of champion cards before they are unlocked in Path of Champions.

Players start with a base deck and progress through different areas throughout Runeterra. Area maps that can be explored are Ionia, Piltover and Zaun, and Bilgewater. There are nine areas on the map, but those three are the only ones unlocked at the moment. Future updates will add more champions and regions to the mode.

Each region has a final boss in it, which is a champion from Legend of Runeterra with a specific buff that makes them much stronger. Piltover helps you against Ezreal and Viktor. Bilgewater is implemented by Gangplank and Nautilus. Ionia defeats the bosses with Lulu and Zed.

Each map has a semi-linear map that the player can navigate on their way to the final boss battle. Each region will have its own flavor encounters, but there are some common encounters to be found in the Path of Champions.

  • Bonus: These spaces can give you a variety of buffs from extra cards, reinforcements in the form of more generals. Winning battles also provide Battle Rewards.
  • Spells Chest: Gives you the option of three spells and adds two copies of a card of your choice to your deck.
  • Item Chest: Gives you the option of three items and adds those to your lap.
  • Shopping: With the gold you’ve accumulated through your adventures, you can buy new cards for your deck. The store will offer at least six card options. You can also buy reroll tokens for 30 gold.

Path of Champions seems to be the main PvE experience in Legend of Runeterra move forward. Future updates will add more to this mode, but there’s more than enough content for finishers to have fun, Slay the Spire Experience style out of mode. How to play Path of Champions in Legends of Runeterra
