How to get Rock Climb TM / HM
As the name suggests, Rock Climb allows Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl players to scale up solid rocks. This is where they can find it.
When the player passes Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining pearlsof the Sinnoh region, they will begin to notice distinctive patterns on some of the walls and ledges. Close investigation of these trenches will reveal that it is indeed possible to climb up and down the rock at these points. While these signs appear fairly early in the story, players won’t really be able to do anything with them until they reach a certain point in the game.
As with all other special actions in Brilliant diamond & Shining pearls, consists of cut down the tree and move the big rocks, the player has to use the Hidden Machine to climb the rock. However, in this case, rather than Cut or Power, it’s the aptly named Rock Climb HM that players will need to own. Unfortunately, however, like some of the other HMs in the game, Rock Climb can be very easy to miss, so players will need to pay attention to avoid having to return later.
Where to find Rock Climbing HM/TM in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Players will be able to find the Rock Climb on Route 217 while heading north to Snowpoint City and Lake Acuity. As they head north along the route, the player should hang loosely on the left side of the path until they reach a small hut. Inside, they’ll find a hiker saying he’s lost his HM08, which contains the Rock Climb. After talking to him, the player should go outside and look around the area directly behind the cabin where they will find the item on the ground. If they return it to the Hiker after picking it up, he will also deliver the Ice Sheet item as a way to say thank you.
How to use Rock Climb HM/TM in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Rock Climb works in the same way as other HMs in Brilliant diamond & Shining pearls, which means players won’t actually need to teach one of their Pokemon moves to use it the way they do in other games. Instead, they simply approach one of the game’s many climbable walls and then press the A button. This prompts the player in turn to trigger a brief animation, after which, the player will be able to climb up and down at will.
Like the other Hidden Machines in the game, Rock Climb requires players to defeat a certain gym leader before they can actually use it in the field. In this case, the player will need to defeat Candice at Snowpoint City’s gym, which is conveniently just one of the player’s next destinations after Route 217. After obtaining the Icicle Badge, players will be able to use the Rock Climb as described above or by selecting it from the Hidden Machines app on Poketch.
