How to get Ponyta & Rapidash in Pokémon FRLG – FandomSpot

Ponyta can be caught either on Kindle Road or at the base of Mt Ember. Both locations are on One Island.

To get to One Island you must defeat Blaine on Cinnabar Island and get the Tri Pass from Celio. After getting the Tri Pass, you can take the Seagallop Ferries from the Port of Vermilion City to One Island.

Ponyta can only be found towards the end of the game after defeating Blaine and getting the Tri Pass as Ponyta can only be found on One Island.

Aside from the Tri Pass, you need HM 03 Surf to access the two routes inhabited by wild Ponytas.

location levels encounter rate
Kindle Street 31 – 34 30%
Mt. Ember 30 – 36 35%

It doesn’t matter if you have FireRed or LeafGreen. The locations, levels and encounter rates are the same in both versions.

The hard part is getting to Kindle Road and Mt Ember.

But once you’re there, you’ll come across wild ponytas left and right.

Kindle Road is the most convenient place for Ponyta. Also if you want to go to Mt. Ember you have to cross the Kindle Road. So you might as well catch a Ponyta or two while you’re there.

How to get to Kindle Road:

  1. Sail from Vermilion City to One Island
  2. Go to the right side of the island
  3. Surf east a bit and then north until you reach land

When you reach Kindle Road there is a sign letting you know you’ve made it. Just walk around the grass and you should come across a Ponyta during your first wild encounters.

Location 2: Mt Ember

Mt. Ember has a slightly higher encounter rate for Ponyta, as well as higher tier Ponytas. Getting to Mt Ember is very similar to getting to Kindle Road. You just have to go a little further:

  1. Go to One Island
  2. Surf to Kindle Road from the east side of One Island
  3. Continue north on Kindle Road until you reach the base of Mt. Ember (re-surfing required).

You really don’t want to go into the cave at Mt. Ember. You just want to walk around the grass outside. I found a Ponyta practically every other encounter.

That’s not all: I also found some Rapidash!

How to get Rapidash

If you’re on the hunt for a Ponyta, chances are you’ll want a Rapidash at some point.

There are a few ways to get this stallion.

The first thing you can do is catch one, which is conveniently easy since they can be found in the exact same locations as Ponyta.

location levels encounter rate
Kindle Street 37 – 40 5%
Mt. Ember 39-42 5%

Just like Ponyta, Rapidash’s locations, level, and encounter rate remain the same in both versions of the game.

Evolution of Ponyta to Rapidash at level 40 / Pokémon FRLG

Of course, if you already have a Ponyta, you can evolve it into Rapidash.

You can do this by getting your Ponyta to level 40.
