Following their reveal earlier this year in Pokemon 25th Anniversary Event, players can now return to the Sinnoh region as a remake Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining pearls be available now. Both games subtly recreate the 2006 Nintendo DS titles, keeping the core gameplay and storyline intact, while providing a new visual engine to power the experience, along with some new features like brand new Ramanas Park.
As a remake, longtime players will likely recall many familiar elements like Hidden Skills or classic HMs. This HM/TM ability including moves like Strength, Cut, Fly, and more that allow the trainer to progress throughout the Sinnoh Region. These HM moves can be earned throughout the length of the adventure, with some, like Waterfall, earned towards the end of the game’s storyline.
Despite being a late game aid, Waterfall is extremely important for moving the map and accessing new areas. This is the way Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining pearls player can get HM Waterfall.
Where to get the waterfall?
Before getting their hands on Waterfall, players will need to go quite far in the game’s journey. In fact, the falls cannot be found until the player defeats the ultimate gym leader, Volkner of the Sunyshore City Gym. He is Electric Pokemon Trainer, so players will need to make sure they have plenty of Pokemon that can resist those types of moves. One thing to keep in mind is that Volkner’s Pokemon know special moves that can work against ground types, so they might not be the best choice for this fight as usual.
Once Gym Leader Volkner gets taken care of and gets his eighth badge, the player should head north to Sunyshore City beach, where they will find a girl named Jasmine. When the player shows her the Beacon Badge, she gives it to the Waterfall HM, allowing it to be used.
It should be noted that Waterfall can be obtained from Jasmine before defeating Volkner. However, doing so only allows it to be used as an Engineering Machine, essentially an attack. The HM version of Waterfall remains locked until the 8th badge is received.
What do waterfalls do?
Waterfall is both a sideways movement and an attack type. It allows the player to swim up waterfalls, from there to new unexplored areas as well as giving the player access to Victory Road and the Elite Four. Unlike the original DS games, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining pearls does not require the player to teach any Pokemon this move in order to use it in the underworld. Instead of registered for the Poketch app, making it available whenever needed. The nice part about this is that the player doesn’t have a move position for the Pokemon to use it, allowing them to diversify their move sets.
However, the option is there if the player wants to use it as an offensive move. As expected, this is a Water-type move that deals 80 physical damage to enemies. It’s an attack that never misses thanks to 100 accuracy but only 15 PP, so it can’t be used a ton without being recharged. Better yet, it also has a chance to make enemies flinch so overall it’s a solid move.
