How to fix error 503 in Final Fantasy XIV

While developers run beta tests and try to fix all the bugs in their games, there is always a chance that some new bugs may appear after certain patches. Those chances are higher in big games like MMO, and Final Fantasy XIV Is no exception.

Some new and returning problems are likely to arise as major updates are rolled into the game, especially with new expansions. During this time, more errors will occur due to the large amount of content being added, as well as server overload due to the number of players trying to play at the same time.

Error 503 is one of them. It will prevent players from starting the game’s launcher, forcing them to exit. Fortunately, there are simple ways to fix it.

When players try to start the game’s launcher, they may be greeted by a popup on the launcher with the following text: “A system error has occurred: 503. HTTPS system error” and force close the launcher.

This issue is dedicated to busy hours in FFXIV, especially when major updates are released because a large number of players will try and play the game at the same time.

The cause is server overload and the only way to fix it is to restart the launcher multiple times. It will be fixed when fewer players try and connect. If it is not fixed after several attempts at different hours, you can also submit ticket support to Square Enix so the team can try and help you fix the problem.

However, keep in mind that you will have to wait a while before receiving a reply if you submit it around the release date of the expansion, as the team will likely have to sort through an increasing number of requests.
