How to create a custom console

Game developer tycoon is one of those games that takes center stage and can dump players into addictive hours without them realizing it. The game has a very minimalistic approach to its graphics (almost like a Flash game) but offers the complete experience of running a game studio straight from the early 80’s.

Creating a custom console is the penultimate step in the game. This would mark the game studio’s progression to a Tier 1 game publishing empire. With such high-level rewards comes a higher level of required achievements. To take the first leap in creating a console, players (or in this case the game studio) should have completed a list of prerequisites, after which a 6-step process would allow access to creating a console.

Steps for a custom console

Step 1: The first step would be to move to the Level 3 office. This would require the game studio to have at least three employees (excluding the player) and a cumulative net worth of $13 million and up. The upgrade cost alone would cost the said amount, so it would be wise to accumulate more before moving to the new workspace.

Step 2: The next step would be to train or hire an employee to become a design specialist. The selected team member should have more than 700 design points in the core attributes in order to be able to offer “design specialist” training. Once that was done, they would be promoted to a design specialist.

Step 3: Having a design specialist on the core team would allow the player to unlock and open the R&D lab. The R&D lab is the one stop solution for all modern (real life) game mechanics in the game. Researching options for AAA game titles, MMO games and Hardware Project is part of it.

Step 4: Once the R&D lab is set up with the necessary staff, players will have access to research the hardware project. This is an important and crucial step in the game studio in the transition from software coding to hardware creation.

Step 5: The next step would be to hire or train a Tech Specialist. While it can be rare to hire one, training one can also take time. An employee with more than 700 technical skills in the core characteristics can be trained with the “Tech Specialist” training. Upon graduation, you would be the company’s first Tech Specialist. If one already exists, players can skip this step.

Step 6: This would unlock and allow access to the hardware labs. Players can now build and design their very own custom gaming console via the “Create Custom Console” option in Hardware Labs.

The cost of making a custom console can range from $11 million to $150 million depending on the focus players place on the components. The console with the absolute hardware specs and research would have a big fan lag, while the most expensive one with all the shiny tech inside will grant a bigger market share and win loyal fans.

This would involve a combination of researched technology in the areas of graphics, game engine, gameplay and sound. Players would need to find the right balance between the four parameters based on their available budget and plan accordingly. To each his own!

Game developer tycoon can be played on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems, Linux and Classic Mac OS.
