Fledge is one of the first characters the player is introduced to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, with Link having to step in and help the skinny Knight Academy student move some crates into the kitchen before heading to the Wing Feast to embarrass Groose and his friends. This pushes Fledge to get in shape, but he once again needs Link’s help to achieve his goal.
Although it is possible to start side quests immediately after completion Lanayru Mining Facility’s dungeon, the actual player won’t be able to complete it until later in the game. With that in mind, some players may want to wait a while to get everything done in one drop instead of having to return to Fledge’s room multiple times.
How to start Fledge’s training side quest
After visiting the Lanayru Mining Facility and beat Moldarach, players will begin to see Fledge walking around outside near Skyloft’s plaza area. If they talked to him, he would mention that he wanted to get in shape and had been working out in secret to avoid being ridiculed by some more of the Knight Academy students.
At this point, Link can visit Fledge’s room at the Knight Academy and sleep through the night to begin the quest. The young hero will wake up to find Fledge struggling to do a single push-up and decide to give his friend some encouragement. Unfortunately, Fledge needs more than words at this point, so Link will need to find something more powerful to help get the fragile little baby into shape.
The first Stamina drug
For Fledge to start progressing, the player will need to give him a newly available stamina potion. This green potion can be purchased from Luv at the Skyloft market and will get the player back 50 Rupees. It’s not exactly cheap, but most will probably see it as a small price to pay to help a friend in need.
With a stamina potion now in the Adventure Bag, the player should return to Fledge’s room at night. He will notice that Link has a stamina potion and ask if he can have it to replenish his energy. If the player agrees, he quickly drains it and then resumes training. For now, at least, there’s nothing more to do.
Once the player has completed Lanayru Desert’s Silent Realm and obtained the Clawshot, they will be able to register for Fledge again and will see that he is starting to make some progress. It’s true that he’s still struggling to do over 100 push-ups, but he’s come a lot further than when Link first joined. He still has a long way to go, so players should give him another stamina potion and then continue their way.
Claim your reward
While some players might be curious to see how Fledge is progressing, there’s no point in checking him back until the Sandship dungeon is completed. At this point, returning to the room at night will reveal a completely different Fledge, who can do thousands of push-ups with relative ease. He will attribute much of his success to Link’s help and encouragement and assign five Gratitude Crystal as a way to say thank you.
It’s worth noting that players can complete all three stages of the quest at once if they wait until this point or later in the story to begin. All they need to do is bring two stamina potions to Fledge’s room for the night and then sleep in his bed until the next night after giving him each potion. When approached this way, the side quest can be completed in less than three minutes.
Mini-Game Pulling the Pumpkin
Much as Side quest Fixing Fun Fun Island, completing Fledge’s training will unlock a special mini-game. It involves Link using his bow to shoot pumpkins for points and can be played by talking to Fledge outside the halls of the Knight Academy once his side quest is completed. You pay 20 Rupees to play and there are several prizes on offer, one of which is a piece of heart.
The rules are relatively simple, with Link being given 90 seconds to shoot the pumpkins that Fledge tosses into the air. He will get 10 points for each pumpkin he hits and hitting the pumpkins in a row will accumulate a multiplier, which can go up to five points for a total of 50 points per pumpkin . Occasionally Fledge will throw a sparkling pumpkin, which is worth twice as many points as the regular one.
If Link gets between 150 and 390 points, Fledge will reward him with Rs 50. However, if he gets between 400 and 590, Link will instead get Eldin Ore, Ancient Flowers, or Twilight Relics. To get the heart piece, the player needs to set a record by scoring 600 points or more. After obtaining the heart shard, Fledge will provide a link or a Goddess Plume, Blue bird feathers, or a Golden Skull to repeat this feat.
Although far Best way to raise Rupees, mini-games bring a lot of fun to play and are a great way to pass the time. Players won’t have too much trouble scoring 600 points, but if they do, you can aim where the stone fence meets the lobby near the top of the fence and shoot an arrow every time Fledge crouched and prepare to throw. However, this approach is a lot less enjoyable and so should only really be used as a last resort if the player is really struggling to hit the target score.
