How to change load time in Splitgate

When you play against a player in a multiplayer shooter like Splitgate, skill will not be the only factor determining the outcome of a match. While you will need to keep your position relative to other players, your tactical choices can give you an advantage even before you fire your weapon.

Knowing the map and choosing the right weapon is often overlooked. If you already have a favorite weapon in Splitgate, you of course want to feature it in the download and start every game with it pre-equipped.

Payloads behave in a somewhat unconventional way in Splitgate, so don’t be surprised if you can’t find an option to change your load.

How to change your load

You cannot currently change your payload in Splitgate. However, this is entirely on purpose as the game is designed around the player starting with specific downloads that change depending on the game mode they choose.

This creates a more even playing field for all players. In normal and ranking mode, for example, all players start the match with Carbine and Pistol. However, players will still have the option to change weapons during the match by picking them up as they appear in marked instances. These breeders are relatively easy to spot, but beware of competition when you decide to approach one of them. Other players may have the same idea as you, and approaching a spawn that you caught off guard could result in you being killed.

If you’re looking to experiment with different gun combinations, you can still experiment with reloads by creating a custom game. Players can choose the initial weapon they want to play with while creating a custom match, allowing them to try out all of the available weapons without entering an actual match.
