How to catch and evolve Scyther in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Some Pokémon are hard to find and even harder to evolve depending on the game you’re playing. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls, the classic Bug / Flying-type Scyther will be both.

Because BDSP is a remake of the original fourth generation title, Scyther is only available in Brilliant diamond, while Pinsir is only available in Shining pearls. This means that anyone looking to hack and slash with Scyther or eventually get their hands on Scizor – one of the most used Pokémon in competitive gaming back in 2006 – will have to do some work.

For the players who ran through Sinnoh in Brilliant diamond, Scyther can be obtained in two ways: in the wild on Route 229 and as a rare creature in some Pokémon Hideaways in the Grand Underground. The first option, however, is located directly above the Resort and is only accessible after the game.

Players trying to become the Grand Underground Bug Catcher can find Scyther in Meadow Caverns, Riverside Caves, Still Water Caverns, and Big Bluff Caverns as a rare animal. You also don’t need to meet any of the prerequisites to encounter Pokémon Mantis as it’s available immediately after you get the Discovery Kit in Eterna City.

When you’re ready to evolve your Scyther into a Scizor, you’ll need to follow a Metal Jacket on the Iron Island or through catching Pokémon that can keep it in the wild and trade with a friend. When you get your Pokémon back, it will be the popular Bug/Steel that dominates the meta in Diamond and Pearl.
