How to Beat Giovanni (January 2022)

Pokemon GO celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2021 and will launch in 2022 with no signs of slowing down. Niantic’s genre-defining ARPG continues to grow and evolve, with a host of events and features released each month. One of the most popular shooting methods is Pokemon GOTeam GO’s rocket leaders, swapped monthly.

The head of Team Rocket himself, Giovanni, is one of the leaders available for players to join in January 2022. Although his roster retains a few of Giovanni’s iconic Pokemon, it does. There are also some random selections. Players aim to knock down Missile Boss of Team GO He himself this month will need to bring in the right team for the job.

Giovanni’s first Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Pokemon Persia

No Pokemon fan should be surprised that Persian is Giovanni’s first Pokemon into battle. Persian is often considered the signature Pokemon of Team GO Rocket Leader and has appeared in every of his teams to date.

As a normal type, Persian is only weak in Combat and use Normal, Dark, Kick, and Fairy moves. This means that Pokemon battle or hard Rock is the best choice. Tyranitar or Terrakion with Smack Down can be very effective, as can Machamp, Hariyama or Lucario with Counter.

Giovanni’s second Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Giovanni’s Monday Pokemon in January 2022 will be one of two Kingler, Nidoking or Rhyperior. This can make it very difficult to build a team against, as there are no Pokemon against all three. Kingler is of the Water type, thus weak to Electricity and Grass. Nidoking is of the Poison/Ground type, and Weak to Ground, Ice, Telepathy, and Water. Rhyperior is a Ground/Rock type, making it weak to water and grass.

The only overlap between these three Pokemon is Nidoking and Rhyperior are both weak against Grass. This means that Pokemon like Torterra with Razor Leaf or Zarude with Vine Whip can counter both. Nidoking is not weak against Grass, but not against it either. A good specialized Pokemon to counter Nidoking would be Empoleon with Waterfall and Hydro Cannon.

Giovanni’s third Pokemon in Pokemon GO

nameless

Giovanni’s third choice in Pokemon GO is Shadow Lugia, a powerful variant of the Psychic/Flying-type Pokemon. Since this is such a rare combination of types, Lugia’s weakness is its somewhat odd selection. Pokemon Diving is weak against Rock, Ghost, Electric, Ice, and Shadow, resistant to Combat, Grass, and Telepathy, and is completely immune to Ground.

With these types of damage, the best Pokemon to face Lugia’s Shadow in clear form Pokemon GO consists of Melmetal, Zacian and Yveltal. Melmetal’s high resistance makes it extremely strong against Lugia, while it can deal severe damage with Thunder and Rock Slide. Zacian and Yveltal will have a harder time surviving Lugia’s attacks, but will quickly defeat it with Dark and electric attacks like Snarl, Wild Charge and Dark Pulse.
