One of the most feared bounty hunters in a galaxy far, far away, Boba Fett became a fan favorite as soon as he appeared. Well, not so soon. The first time a bounty hunter appeared in Star Wars appeared in the infamous ‘Star Wars Holiday Special’ in 1978. Fortunately, the animated segment ‘The Faithful Wookiee’ introduced him – the first. Star Wars cartoon – is rated higher than the rest of the festival feature, but it’s not a promising start.
However, there is something about this bounty hunter. Unlike the other characters, and yes, which sadly includes Chewbacca’s son Lumpy and father Itchy, Boba Fett’s popularity has only just begun.
Boba Fett made his first live-action appearance in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ just over a year later, but he was completely different. His costume, an animated version of the ideas for the movie, has been muted and he’s a lot less active, even if he’s more efficient. Even so, the uninitiated character, armed with thick armor, a green cape, and a helmet that he never takes off has captured the imaginations of fans. tomb.
Boba Fett must have been inspired by the Royal plot in his animated debut when he was strangely talkative. He only had four lines in the original trilogy, all of which appeared in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. He only managed to give a high pitched scream when he was mercilessly thrown into the Great Carkoon Pit in ‘Return of the Jedi’. Signed for a slow death in the stomach of a Sarlacc that has taken a leisurely 1000 years to digest its victims, that’s the last we see of him.
Only it is not. The bounty hunter’s reputation only grows in Star Wars Expanded Universe books, comics, video games, etc. By the time of the prequel trilogy, he’s earned a tragic backstory. In ‘Attack of the Clones,’ we learned about the roots of young Boba and how he fueled a life of bounty hunting.
Fans won’t let Boba Fett go, and his best hour may yet to come. ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ will see him return in a series of his own on Disney Plus in December 2021.
What is ‘The Book of Boba Fett’?
‘Boba Fett’s book will catch up with fan favorite after ‘Return of the Jedi’ as he begins taking over Jabba the Hutt’s underground empire from Bib Fortuna. It’s a complete turnaround for a character who should have been disappearing in the Tatooine Desert. But this isn’t the first time Boba Fett has been shown to have survived those events. Over the years, several stories have offered an explanation for his escape, although it remains a blank canvas. Those stories were swept up in non-canonical things Legend of Star Wars banner when Disney removed the Lucasfilm continuity in 2014.
The canonical proof of Fett’s survival comes only to the second season of Disney Plus ”The Mandalorian” when he was just one of the show’s incredible guests.
The word Mandalorian first appeared in the franchise as early as 1983, during Marvel’s time Star Wars #68 comic book trip to the planet Mandalore, and Boba Fett remains the most famous member of that culture. Before the series settled on Fett and his battered outfit, the term was coined to refer to white armored super-shock soldiers. Memorable additions to his armor like the helmet, chest armor, vambraces and jet pack, hint to that original concept.
Mandalorian expanded the concept, presenting alternative truths to today’s non-canonical comic plots. It seems inevitable that Fett will show up at some point, even though the show doesn’t explain the bounty hunter’s survival half a decade ago (‘The Mandalorian’ is set 5 years after the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’). However, the incident left Boba Fett scarred and without special armor.
We can only hope that Books by Boba Fett fill the gap between the original Star Wars trio and Mandalorian. If it doesn’t, it can choose some ideas that Legend of Star Wars has been providing for over 40 years.
How did Boba Fett survive the Sarlacc Hole?
The only thing a little more unbelievable than the massive cult that arose around Boba Fett in the early 1980s was the way he shamelessly died. Fell on his face before Han Solo accidentally activated his rocket pack and pushed the first bounty hunter’s helmet into Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge and a defiant falling onto the Sarlacc. It may be controversial, but Fett’s death is slightly improved in the 1997 Special Edition Return of the Jedi, when CGI enhances the sand beast.
It remains a miserable fate until it doesn’t. The earliest attempt to save the Mandalorian came shortly after ‘Return of the Jedi.’ Marvel’s Star Wars #81 was published in December 1983 and picked up shortly after the conclusion of the trilogy. It shows that Sarlacc recovered Fett, whom Jawas later found. Suffering from amnesia, the bounty hunter didn’t even recognize Han Solo later in the matter. It’s especially interesting – for everyone, except Fett – when Jawa Sandcrawler falls back into the Sarlacc pit at the end of the story while he’s still on board. Fan favorite or not, he can’t rest.
In 1996, J.D. Montgomery contributed in ‘A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett’ to the anthology book Stories from Jabba .’s Palace. Its subject matter is a strange but inspiring explanation of Fett’s survival.
In it, the famous bounty hunter awakens in Sarlacc’s digestive system, his armor badly damaged by the creature’s stomach acid. Strangely, he establishes a telepathic connection with the creature’s previous victims, allowing him to manipulate Sarlacc himself. That, the jet pack, and a few well-deployed grenades allow Fett to escape the creature’s tentacles to the surface of Tatooine.
Dark Horse’s Shadow Empire comics offered an alternative to the events after ‘Return of the Jedi’. Although, despite seeing Han Solo again, that only confirms that Fett survived, not how he managed it. It makes you wonder if Star Wars canon may decide that it’s a mystery too good to solve. Boba Fett’s actor Temuera Morrison hinted at the opposite in a few of the comments he made about the upcoming series, saying, “we’ll see his past and where he’s been since.” after ‘The Empire Strikes Back.’”
Although there is currently no official explanation for Fett’s survival in the canon Star Wars plot, we know that Sarlacc is slowly digesting their victims and thanks Mandalorian, how strong is the Mando armor.
The second series sees Fett’s armor fall into the hands of Cobb Vanth by Timothy Olyphant, a Tatooine sheriff first introduced in Chuck Wendig’s novels. Consequences: Life Debt. That book – is part of the revision Star Wars canon – it is revealed that Sarlacc was mortally wounded by the destruction of Jabba’s sail barge. An exposed wound allows the resourceful Jawa to search from within, retrieving Fett’s special armor in the process. It could be, as suggested by the farthest explanation in Legend of Star Wars, the wound is created by Boba Fettescape?
