Daril Browning, a Baltimore native who now lives in Media, Pa., says she’s kept her sons, ages 8 and 13, invested in volunteering by changing things up. They started volunteering at a local food bank when the kids were young, and now the family is involved in the Boy Scouts of America, park cleaning, and other volunteer activities. “With an older person, he can stop and think about that, and why he helps people,” she said.
