House of Pierre Cardin Reschedules Fashion Show for January – WWD

COME FLY WITH ME: House of Pierre Cardin will hold a fashion show on January 28 in memory of the legendary tailor, who died a year ago at the age of 98.

The show is scheduled to be held at 7 p.m. CET at the National Air and Space Museum near Le Bourget airport in northern Paris, the house said in a statement Tuesday. Remote location seems to be gaining traction, with Hermès launching the spring 2022 collection at the airport’s private jet terminal in October.

Cardin is best known for staging performances in breathtaking settings, including the Gobi desert and his bubble-shaped Palais bulls on the French Riviera. Coming from the end of Paris haute couture week, which set to run from 24th to 27th January, the Cardin show will feature the designer’s final creations alongside a new collection produced by his design studio.

“This fashion show was designed and staged by his grandson Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, now head of the group, maintaining the style and codes that have made the house so successful,” the brand said. said.

Basilicati-Cardin, technically Cardin’s grandson, had initially announced plans to hold the performance on December 29, to mark the one-year anniversary of Cardin’s death.

“We’re hoping to do things that he wouldn’t be recognized for as what he’s done, it’s important to go in the creative direction – while also recognizing Pierre Cardin, the brand,” said Basilicati-Cardin, who was appointed chief executive officer of the label in October 2020.

“The brand will be perceived as his, not completely different, as we often see in other homes,” he explains.

“That would be my interpretation,” added Basilicati-Cardin, adding that he will be more involved in clothing designs than accessories. He’s looking at the home’s archive – which includes some 30,000 pieces of clothing – for inspiration, without copying previous styles.

The Basilicati-Cardin is one of the heirs to the Space Age designer’s family of empires, which includes a huge estate and Maxim’s restaurant, but has become the face of the brand.

Cardin was buried in a private ceremony at the Montmartre cemetery at the beginning of the year, followed by a mass at the Madeleine church, with the First Lady of France Brigitte Macron attended.
