Home Run Derby and Futures Game Data Added to B-R

Posted by Alex Bonilla on July 2, 2021
We’ve always had The match at home and Future game information on Bullpen, Baseball-Reference’s user-managed wiki, but we’ve now added participation data for those events to the main Baseball-Reference website.
Derby Home Run champion, as evidenced by a 3-time winner Ken Griffey Jr., have now marked their achievement “bling” at the top of their player page. Also, if you scroll down Appear on Leaderboards, Awards Tables and Honors Boards, Home Run Derby participation is included as its own section right now, with wins in bold. Because this is only join data, you still have to access Bullpen if you want to see the actual score of Derbies.
Similarly, if the player participates in the Future Game, use Joey Gallo as an example, now appears in a new section of the Leaderboard Appearances, Awards and Honors table. This data also appears on their mini league page in a column of the Outlook Rankings table. Each Future Game is linked to the relevant Bullpen page if you’d like to see the full list of that year as well as scores and related events.
We thank intern Jeremy Frank for his work in collecting and preparing this data for this project. If you want to share any feedback or suggestions, feel free to send us your thoughts via our feedback form.
