We should be celebrating the huge success of big budget blockbusters like Spider-Man: There’s no way home, There’s no time to die, Fast & Furious 9, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the rest, all of them have come a long way to restore theatrical industry to something like its former glories.

However, that is not a rosy picture on the whole. Adult drama continues to struggle, while non-franchise horror has also been hit hard. Halloween Kills, A Quiet Place Part II and The Conjuring: The devil made me do it had the brand awareness to go back to, which James Wan Malignant does not own, other than the name and reputation of the filmmaker.

It’s a crying shame, because the original story is definitely The craziest studio-backed project is coming out of Hollywood This year. Annabelle Wallis’ Madison is haunted by dreams that have troubled her since childhood, but they may be images of a serial killer committing terrible acts.

Suffice to say, it’s not that simple. Not even close. The third act of Malignant totally crazy and silly, but in the best possible way. It barely screams cheers for Yuletide, but it’s back on HBO Max’s most-watched list this weekend, nonetheless. FlixPatrol.
