Dear Heloise: It’s gift-giving season, and as you know, that means some gifts will be returned. One of the easiest ways to return an item is with a receipt. Not necessarily a sales receipt, but a sales receipt that many retailers provide showing where the item was purchased and the date but not the price. If you require one of these sales receipts or if it is offered, by all means accept it and stick it on the inside of the box lid or attach to the item. Every year, we receive items in our store that are purchased in another store, and when we refuse to accept another company’s merchandise, there is often an argument. However, with proof of purchase we will refund or at least give you store credit without any hassle.
