Herschel Walker says he is a model father. He has a secret son.

Former football star-turned Republican nominee for senator Herschel Walker has for years expressed his immense pride and love for his grown son while taking a principled stand against fatherless households and dopey fathers — particularly in the black community.

“And I want to apologize to the African-American community, because the fatherless home is a big, big problem,” Walker said in a September 2020 interview, adding that he’s “been like a father to some of these kids that never were.” had done had fathers.”

A month earlier, Walker – who co-parented his 22-year-old son Christian with both his ex-wife and current wife – told far-right internet personalities Diamond and Silk that if you “even have a kid with a woman, if you’re that leave the wife…don’t leave the child.”

What Walker hasn’t publicly admitted is that he has a second son who has apparently been estranged from his birth father since he was born a decade ago.

The son, whose name The Daily Beast is withholding for privacy reasons, grew up more than 1,500 miles from Walker’s home in Texas. And the mother, whose name we also withhold for privacy reasons, had to take Walker to court a year after the birth to obtain a declaration of paternity and child support.

The Daily Beast confirmed these events through public posts, a court document declaring Walker the child’s father, and a person close to the boy’s family who has direct knowledge of the events.

This person told The Daily Beast that while Walker sends Christmas and birthday presents, he has otherwise not played an active parental role in raising his second son. The child also did not meet or speak to his half-brother Christian, the person said.

Walker’s campaign manager Scott Paradise told The Daily Beast in a statement that Walker – who will try to unseat Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock in the fall – is “proud of his children”.

“Herschel had a child years ago when he wasn’t married. He has supported the child and continues to do so. He is proud of his children. To suggest that Herschel is “hiding” the child because he has not used her in his political campaign is offensive and absurd,” Paradise said.

The statement continued: “Raphael Warnock is currently in the midst of both a nasty mud fight and a nasty custody battle with his ex-wife. He’s trying to hide it from voters by sealing the case and has even tried to hide from authorities. That’s a complete double standard.”

Paradise provided no evidence to support the claim that Warnock “was trying to hide from the authorities”.

Meredith Brasher, Warnock’s communications director, called the senator a “devoted” father and co-parent.

“Reverend Warnock is a devoted father who is proud to continue raising both of his children together while he works for the people of Georgia,” Brasher told The Daily Beast.

His campaign says Herschel Walker, seen here with Donald and Melania Trump at the 2021 World Series, is not “hiding” the 10-year-old boy, whom he has never publicly acknowledged as his son.

According to a court official’s statement and review of the case to The Daily Beast, Walker’s paternity suit dragged on for more than a year after his affidavit. When the court issued its final alimony order in August 2014, the boy was over 2 years old. The child took the surname Walker.

According to a public document about the lawsuit, Walker and his second son’s mother began a relationship on November 1, 2008 that lasted until September 16, 2011, about nine months before the son’s birth.

It is unclear why the relationship ended. At the time, Walker appears to have been involved with at least three women. In 2010, Walker told talk radio host Howard Stern that he had only slept with two women, the second of whom was his current, unnamed girlfriend.

Two of those three women have accused Walker of violent behavior, including making death threats against them. Walker has denied the claims.

One of the women was Blanchard, who revealed herself as Walker’s fiancee in February 2012. The next month, January 2012, a third woman, Myka Dean, also claimed to be in an “on-and-off” relationship with Walker that lasted about two decades.

Dean made that claim in a police report filed in Irving, Texas, in which she claimed Walker threatened to “blow her head off” and then take her life. The Constitution of the Atlanta Journal reported. Dean died in 2019.

Walker’s first wife, Cindy Grossman, has also accused the Senate candidate-turned-football star of being “physically abusive”. She also claimed Walker once threatened to “blow her brains out.” In 2005, Grossman obtained a protective order against Walker over the threatening allegations. The judge even temporarily revoked Walker’s right to carry a gun, the Associated Press reported.

Still, Walker, Grossman, and Blanchard all helped raise Christian Walker, the former pro-bowler’s son, with Grossman.

Walker, in an interview in December 2019 said his greatest achievement being being a good father has pointed to his parenting as a role model for other unconventional families.

When asked in the Diamond and Silk interview, “How about teaching our black men that if you lay down with a woman and have a baby, it’s your responsibility to stay there and make sure the child grows up?” Walker replied, “Homeboy knows dad is in his life” — referring to Christian Walker, who is now 22.

He painted a picture of his ex-wife and her husband, his current wife and son sitting around a restaurant table. “And people look at us like, ‘You’re crazy.’ And I said no, we get along because it’s not about us anymore,” Walker said.

Walker has emphasized a team approach to parenting, urging community members to come to the rescue of children with absent fathers.

“We have a lot of NFL players. We have many NBA players. And they want to help. They have given millions of dollars to Black Lives Matter. Let’s not do that,” he said to Diamond and Silk.

“I’m saying what we have to do is go all over the neighborhood [sic] and let us become fathers to these fatherless children [sic]. That said, let’s try to steer them in the right direction,” he said.

At the same time, Walker has taken an uncompromising stance against abortion, calling for a total ban “with no exceptions” last month.

Walker’s opponent, Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), is currently embroiled in a custody battle of his own with his ex-wife. She is “seeking changes to her custody arrangements.” She has asked a Georgia family court to adjust child support payments to reflect Warnock’s increased personal income after she entered the Senate.

“If you have a child, hug them every day.”

Political opponents, including the Republican National Committee, have turned the suit into a line of attack. In April, an RNC spokesman accused Warnock of “ignoring the financial needs of his own children,” although Warnock is not accused of evading child support.

But in light of the revelation about his second son and the paternity lawsuit, Walker’s thoughts about a close-knit family life seem full of hypocrisy.

For example, in an informal 2017 speech, Walker lovingly reflected on his relationship with his son Christian, advising his audience, “When you’re going to have a kid, hug your kid every day.”

“I have a 17-year-old Christian. i love this guy I love him to death,” Walker said. He added: “He’s 17, he’s trying to retire. I tell him, ‘Hey dude, until you’re big enough to throw me off boy I’ll kiss and hug you.’”

And a year later, at an appearance by the Presidential Fitness Panel, Walker said that while parental involvement is “very, very important,” so is “adults who are involved with kids, because some kids [sic] have no parents, no mother or father.”

“So I don’t think I want to leave that kid behind. I want to be with him too,” he said.
