Books by Boba Fett follows the famous bounty hunter as he seeks to take power in the criminal underworld following the death of Jabba the Hutt. Set up pretty soon in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, the series also took place shortly after Boba’s appearance on Mandalorian, saw him finally regain his armor and proved that his kicking skills were no worse than since falling into the Sarlacc pit on Tatooine. Now, after teaming up with a similar death trick Fennec, the two have some plans to make.

The premise of the show made many fans wonder if this was the first time Star Wars the project actually covers the “gray zone” of morality. In a series that has essentially made its name about the constant war between the clearly good Light side and the definitely evil Dark side, the all black and white is admittedly a bit thin for the eyes. some fans wanted to see more nuance in the storytelling. True, it seems like every time someone tries to really take the franchise somewhere new, they run into fierce resistance from purists, who seem to think that (for example) makes Luke Skywalker a real character rather than some perfect god. equals betrayal of all things Star Wars stands for.

So, that way, it’s conceivable that it takes a long time to really look at the more intense side of the galaxy. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, despite arguably the best entry since The Empire Strikes Back, perhaps best remembered for its divisiveness. So that might scare Disney away from really putting all their energy into innovation. But Books by Boba Fett could signal a return to that form, focusing less on the possibly overdue Jedi and more on the darker elements of the universe.

However, darkness doesn’t always mean bad, and hopefully that’s a theme that will be explored here as well. Sure, Boba and Fennec are basically trying to take over the criminal underworld. But isn’t it better to have order in that kingdom than just have a bunch of gangsters running around unchecked?

Books by Boba Fett will premiere on Disney Plus starting December 29, 2021.
