At the age of 41, a famous fashion designer Virgil Abloh passed away Sunday after battling a rare form of cancer. Abloh is one of the most prominent figures in the fashion industry known for his creativity. He bought a new mindset on fashion without limits and took modern fashion to a new dimension. Needless to say, the world is mourning the passion of such a legendary figure.
He was very close to the 23-time Grand slam champion Serena Williams. Abloh, founder of high-fashion label Off-white worked very closely with Williams and Nike on some of the outfits she wore on the court a few years ago. He’s also designed some of Serena’s kits – especially for the 2018 season.
Abloh designed one of Serena’s most iconic outfits – her 2018 French Open bodysuit. This particular outfit is special to Serena as it is the outfit she wears after giving birth to Olympia. The outfit has a distinct charm and it portrays her as a superhero. “I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess,” Serena talks about Abloh’s long suits in 2018.
‘Words cannot express sadness’: Serena Williams

After he passed away, Serena shared an emotional 25-second video for Abloh where she can be seen with him having a good time.
“Words cannot describe the sadness I felt when my friend @virgilabloh passed away. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to witness such greatness, such genius, and feel the warmth in his smile,” she writes.
“It is my honor to stand next to him. He lights up every room he walks into. May his beloved family and friends find solace in knowing how deeply his art has impacted our culture and all of us. I will miss you.”
Not just Serena, almost all the tennis stars who have worked with him including his sister Venus and Maria Sharapova have expressed their sadness for the same.
