Hawkeye premiered with the lowest ratings of any Marvel Studios series on Disney Plus, despite being mostly well received.
While MCU fans seem to be excited about Hawk Eye Coming to Disney Plus, it seems that the praise doesn’t really translate into high ratings. NS Hawk Eye series with the lowest ratings for the two-episode premiere of any Marvel Studios series premiering on the streaming service.
Hawk Eye features Jeremy Renner as the title character, even if he’s rarely called that in MCU movies. Renner is co-starred with Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Kate Bishop. The pair are tasked with joining a series of baddies during Clint Barton’s Christmas walk to New York City for what is believed to be some R&R.
While the combination of Renner and Steinfeld is seen by many in the industry as a powerful pair, it has so far failed to produce eyeballs on Hawk Eye. According to Deadline, the first episode of the new series had 1.5 million viewers between Wednesday and Sunday. That number is behind the last Marvel Studios movie to hit the mark Disney Plus in Loki. Using the Samba television rating system that measures 3 million households in the United States and what they watch while streaming in five-minute increments, Loki attracted 2.5 million viewers at launch. It means Hawk Eye was 40% less than.
Perhaps even more bad news for the new series is that it lost about 200,000 viewers from the first episode to the second. Remember these are not weekly views but instant views since the first two episodes came out at the same time. About 200,000 people watched the premiere and decided that the sequel shouldn’t be seen for one reason or another.
When Loki can be the gold standard for ratings when it comes to Disney Plus MCU Shows, Hawk Eye also followed a number of other Marvel Studios series that weren’t as successful as expected at launch. Renner and Steinfeld premieres are also in the background Falcon and the Winter Soldierattracted 1.8 million viewers and WandaVision, which was previously the lowest launch with 1.6 million.
Despite the low initial ratings, Hawk Eye no result of a program that can turn the tide and attract more viewers. Critics have given the Disney Plus show a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the streaming service certainly has plenty of subscribers who might decide to air the movie now that it’s out. It’s also important to note that the first two episodes came out a day before a long Thanksgiving weekend for most families in America. Maybe family time and shopping take precedence over watching.
A new episode of Hawk Eye premieres on Disney Plus every Wednesday.
Contrary to claims from Sony’s higher ups, the new Spider-man movies in the MCU starring Tom Holland have yet to find their way home.
