‘Hacks’ Part 2 starring Laurie Metcalf, Martha Kelly and Ming-Na Wen

The casting gods have heard the prayers of actress-obsessed Internet veteran Stans, and are smiling at us.

As Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) prepares for her big tour, Hacks announced several women she will meet along the way. HBO Max has announced that Laurie Metcalf, Martha Kelly, Ming-Na Wen and Margaret Cho will join the fun in the second season of the hit comedy, which premieres later this spring.

When we dropped Deborah and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) last season, they were in a difficult position. The comedian officially asked her young apprentice to help write new material for the tour, but as they departed for their first destination, Ava received breaking news: a slanderous email she’d received Writing about Deborah will be used against her in a new TV show. While we don’t know exactly what roles they’ll play in Season 2, the actresses joining the new roles match the promising energy of the show’s first season. Metcalf, Kelly and Wen have signed on as recurring guest stars, with Cho jumping in a cameo. They will feature the returning cast of Smart, Einbinder, Carl Clemons-Hopkins and Jane Adams.

Emmy Award-winner Laurie Metcalf knows quite a bit about complex intergenerational relationships — just take the word Orange beetle. Most recently, she has starred in episodes of The Conners, Dropoutand Q-Forceand she is best known for her ability to turn on Roseanne as Jackie Harris.

You might recognize Martha Kelly from her recent fan-favorite role in Happinessdrug lord Laurie. HBO is doubling down on the actress, who also plays the lead role Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marriage Story. She will be joined by Ming-Na Wen, who killed it as Fennec Shand in the Disney+ Star Wars sagas. Mandalorian and Books by Boba Fett recently.

Hacks was created by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, who together received two Emmy monuments at the 2021 awards ceremony. The trio executive produces alongside Michael Schur, David Miner and Morgan Sackett.
