Gretchen Whitmer affected after the fastest Covid Surge state record in the US

Perhaps no governor in the United States has accepted the use of emergency powers with more fervor than Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat.
In a commentary published by Detroit News, writer Kathy Hoekstra reports that in March 2020, Whitmer’s administration sent a letter for all doctors and pharmacists to be on alert for “professional consequences” if they prescribe or dispense hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine to treat coronavirus patients.
Next month, follow Detroit Free Press, Whitmer bans travel between residences (with some exceptions) and bans all public and private gatherings of any size, with a $1,000 fine for any violation. .
She even closed gardening centers at the start of the 2020 planting season. She also banned the Michiganders from golfing.
The above list merely scratches the surface. To put it bluntly, this governor abused his power. Michigan Supreme Court in October 2020 ruled that she did not have the legal authority to continue the closures in her state. In July of this year, Whitmer was urgently stripped of his powers by state legislature.
Whitmer’s draconian measures are unlikely to make much difference in stopping the spread of the coronavirus.
Michigan is currently experiencing a frightening increase in COVID cases. As of Saturday, there are 346,030 active cases in the state according to the data website World-o-meter. This is the highest number of active cases ever in the state and easily eclipses the two previous spikes of 293,837 on April 25, 2021 and 251,631 on December 11, 2020. .
Newsweek on Wednesday reported that Michigan had the highest number of new cases in the country over the past week. With a rate of 572 cases per 100,000 residents, the state has surpassed Minnesota with 515 cases. From November 14 to 20, the report indicated that there were 61,551 new cases, a record in the state.
The spike in the Midwest is affecting an area where Covid cases hit an all-time high around this time last year.

In a speech at a turkey giveaway on Tuesday, Whitmer said the holiday season is particularly dangerous for the spread of the coronavirus.
“When the holidays hit, I was concerned. We have generations of families getting together, some of whom will bring COVID into those events, and sadly some family members may get sick,” Whitmer said, according to Newsweek.
However, she indicated that she was not considering locking the door.
“A year ago we didn’t have a vaccine. We now have the tools to stay safe.”
She also asked for more federal help.
The federal government has approved Michigan’s request to assist emergency hospital workers during the most recent COVID surge, according to a Whitmer spokesperson.

On Wednesday, Related press reports that the federal government has sent 44 military medical personnel to help hospitals in Michigan that are experiencing staff shortages.
Governor favors re-election next year and Republicans are on the attack.
Judge Washington reported “state GOP inflated” Whitmer did nothing “for not implementing new mitigation measures.”
Gustavo Portela, communications director for the Michigan GOP, told The Examiner that her policies “put more people at risk” and “didn’t really help.”
Her measures hurt the Michiganders in the pocket book, but did not slow the transmission of the virus.
“You can protect lives and livelihoods,” added Portela.
According to the report, “Portela argues Whitmer’s approach overestimates the mission of vaccines at the expense of educating the public about vaccine safety and effectiveness.”
Republican strategist Jason Roe told the station that Whitmer “was an MIA. She did nothing. Literally not a thing. ”
Whether the current Republican offensive will lead Whitmer to a well-deserved escape from the governor’s mansion is up to Wolverine State voters, but one lesson from Whitmer’s reign suggests. so far is very clear:
Do you think Gretchen Whitmer will be re-elected?
Tyranny combined with incompetence is a losing combination.
Whitmer was clearly outspoken in the early months of the pandemic, alienating her own constituents even as she was hailed by libertarians on the national stage. (Like her Democratic colleague, now-before Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo.)
Follow New York Times. So Whitmer, who shunned much of her status last year, now finds herself clearly unable to convince many of her constituencies this year. It’s weird.
Michigan may have a lower-than-average vaccination rate, but it’s not the only Democratic-run state with high infection rates. Deep blue Vermont – a leader in COVID vaccination by any measure – has experienced increase in cases, as well as California and New York of limited fame.
Red states, meanwhile, like Republicans Ron DeSantis ‘Florida’, is working relatively well.
So what stands out is that a country that adopts the most restrictive measures to combat the virus will lead America on its own into the latest wave of the pandemic.
Maybe it’s because autocracy doesn’t work.
