BLS’s quit data is not broken down by salary or education but is sorted by industry, and knowledge-intensive industries did not see a large increase in turnover. The dropout rate in professional and business services was just 0.4 percentage points higher in September than it was before the pandemic in February 2020. In financial activities, the rate was flat. In the information sector, which includes telecommunications, publishing, broadcasting, film, software and most internet companies, the quit rate fell 0.3 percentage points. (Mining and logging also declined, which is primarily the oil and gas business, but that’s a different story.)
