GOP Rep. Greg Steube Deletes Incredibly Stupid Post on CNN

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL), who appears to lack a basic understanding of how television works, confidently blared on Twitter Thursday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi allowed CNN to suspend its coverage of the committee’s hearings on March 6. Broadcast from the Capitol floor on Jan.

“In case you forgot that the fake hearings of the #6.

The screenshot attached to Steube’s tweet showed CNN host Jake Tapper interviewing former Mike Pence assistants Alyssa Farah Griffin and Olivia Troye just before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots called hearings and focused on how former President Donald Trump pressured his vice president to overturn the 2020 election.

The background image on CNN’s set was that of Statuary Hall, which is believed to be where Lincoln’s desk was located.

Of course, CNN did not build a television in Statuary Hall, nor did they build a television anywhere else on the Capitol grounds. Tapper and company were at the station’s Washington, DC studios. Steube simply mistook a clearly digital, green gridded background for the real deal.

The Florida Republican deleted his tweet within 30 minutes of posting it.

“It looks like someone has been initiated into the magic of modern television,” a channel spokesman told The Daily Beast. Steube’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
