GOP Rep. Debbie Lesko is furious that she accidentally said she was going to shoot her own grandkids

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) caused a stir this week when she took the floor in the House of Representatives to oppose a gun safety bill, appearing to swear to shoot her own grandchildren.

“I have five grandchildren,” the congresswoman began in her Tuesday address. “I would do everything-anything– to protect my five grandchildren. Including, as a last resort, shooting them if I have to to protect my grandchildren’s lives.” Growing increasingly angry, Lesko accused the Democrats of trying to “take away my right to protect my grandchildren” and “depriving law-abiding citizens of the right to protect their own children”.

After Lesko’s comments gained traction on social media on Wednesday, including gun rights activists Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts The congresswoman expressed concern about her apparent priorities and issued a statement that did not seek to clarify her comments but instead attacked her critics.

“It never ceases to amaze me how far gun control fanatics will go!” Lesko wrote on Twitter. “You turned my speech about protecting Second Amendment rights and my right to protect my grandchildren from violent criminals into a claim that I was harming my own grandchildren. Absolutely ridiculous!”

Lesko, who narrowly won her Arizona district’s 2018 special election, has a history of inflammatory statements, including anti-vaccine rhetoric, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. She recently received endorsement from Donald Trump for her 2022 re-election campaign. GOP Rep. Debbie Lesko is furious that she accidentally said she was going to shoot her own grandkids
