Google unveils Pixel 7 and 7 Pro phones

Google has made an official announcement showcasing two of its latest flagship products: the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Google has also revealed some new information about the development of the Pixel line, along with a surprise choice.
The reveal follows a sneak peak from earlier this year. Back in May at Google’s I/O 2022, their annual developer conference, they gave the audience a hint about the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Showing only the backs of the devices, viewers got a glimpse of two white phones with silver camera bars, one matte and one glossy. Notable was the different camera setup between the two models, with the Pro seemingly having more functionality.
Now, Google has lifted the lid on both the Pixel 7 and its big brother, the Pixel 7 Pro, offering fans more details on the pair. The phones feature the Google Tensor G2, the company’s proprietary processor, as well as the Titan M2 chip, which is said to improve users’ data security. Surprisingly, Google also revealed that the new phones would come with their own built-in VPN (virtual private network) at no extra cost. This is an interesting choice as Google released their own VPN back in 2020, but it cost $10.99/month and that release came with a few other benefits. Google hasn’t indicated if Pixel 7 users would be given the same perks.
The new phones also offer some other features and improvements over their predecessors. The 7 and 7 Pro will have better cameras, capable of accurately capturing a wider variety of skin tones and better able to capture selfies at night. The selfie camera will now also include facial recognition software that will allow users to unlock the devices. For added security, this is paired with an under-display fingerprint reader. The phones will also feature an extreme battery saver mode, which Google says can extend battery life up to 72 hours. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro also have a clear calling feature. Using machine learning, the feature tries to reduce background noise and improve call quality.
What stands out from this list of new and improved features is Google’s doubling down on privacy and security, something Google is doing direct competitor Apple, has always put itself in the foreground with its products. The Titan M2 chip, built-in VPN, facial recognition, and fingerprint scanner all indicate a big focus on security, which many fans will likely take notice of.
It’s phone release season now, with Apple’s iPhone 14 already here and the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro on the horizon. At $599 for the 7 and $899 for the 7 Pro, fans will soon be able to see for themselves how the two tech giants stack up.
That Google Pixel7 and 7 pers can be pre-ordered now and will be released on October 13th.
