GmbH’s New Men’s Collection Deals With Sex and Religion – WWD

After nearly two years of digital presentations, GmbH designers Benjamin Huseby and Serhat Isik are eager to return to the runway. But with COVID-19 still raging in Europe, they limited their audience to just eight guests.
The resulting film merges runway footage with smartphone images shot by attendees, bringing in some of the energy of a live event.
The collection, titled “Talisman,” covers themes intimated by the multicultural duo, who this season focus on formal and religious dress codes, inspired by visits mosque on Friday.
Huseby and Isik reflect the conflicting emotions of growing up gay and Muslim, with a blend of edgy and vibrant tailoring elements borrowed from classic haute couture. “For us, it’s not about criticizing a religion or trying to undermine anyone’s beliefs. It was a very personal experiential and spiritual exploration,” says Huseby.
Oversized side suits, tied with a single button, were worn with knitted skullcaps. Substitute trousers for thigh-high boots, and boxy coats for the glamorous look of a mini-skirt.
The mid-century creations of French tailor Jacques Fath influenced thick coats with exaggerated synthetic fur collars and cuffs, and sculpted tops with raised necklines. up and back exposed. The silk pajama dividers are printed in Arabic calligraphy with affirmations like “Safety not compromised”.
“GmbH has always used fashion as a shield in some way,” said Isik. This bold line radiates pride and confidence, inviting the wearer to move forward and prosper.
