Glenn Martens to Head Fashion Jury at 2022 Hyères Festival – WWD

PARIS – Glenn Martens, creative director of Y/Project and Diesel, has been selected to chair the fashion jury at the 37th edition of the Hyères International Fashion and Photography Festival.

The announcement was made at Chanel’s newly inaugurated special crafts center on Friday evening.

The accessories jury will be led by Aska Yamashita, artistic director of Chanel-owned Atelier Montex embroidery studio, while Belgian visual artist Pierre Debusschere, who has worked with Raf Simons and Beyoncé, will be the leader of the photography team.

Considered the main launchpad for fashion designers, the festival, which was scheduled for October 14-16, has moved to this fall time in 2021 due to pandemic-related disruptions. Instagram is joining the festival partners as of this release.

This year’s exhibition at the modernist Villa Noailles in Hyères will be designed by Paris-based interior architects Marc-Antoine Biehler and Amaury Graosystemine, winners of the Visual Merchandising Prize presented by Chanel presented at the Design Parade Toulon interior design festival in 2021, also led by Blanc. .

Traditionally, last year’s Première Vision Award winner, British designer Ifeanyi Okwuadi, will join the fashion jury.

The 10 finalists will compete for the Première Vision Grand Prize, the main fashion prize; the 19M Chanel Métiers d’Art award; Chloé Award, and the award for sustainable design introduced last year.

New this season is the award presented by the “Atelier des Matières”, an initiative of social and environmental responsibility that aims to give new life to unused materials and unsold finished goods, decoded for reuse in new items. The award-winning designer will have access to a selection of fabrics and leathers worth 10,000 euros.

Founded and led by Jean-Pierre Blanc, the Hyères festival showcases talents like Viktor & Rolf; Saint Laurent Art Director Anthony Vaccarello; Julien Dossena by Paco Rabanne, Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh, who designed the menswear label Botter.

Martens, who recently introduced Y/Project’s fall 2022 line and the one-off couture collection he designed for Jean Paul Gaultier, will introduce an all-gender wardrobe Diesel Fall 2022 show, scheduled for 1pm CET on February 23 at Milan Fashion Week.
