LITHOPOLIS, Ohio (WCMH) – A girl and her mother who were operating a production stand in Lithopolis were struck by a vehicle that could not adjust for a bend, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Nathan Dennis said at 12:04 p.m. Thursday, a vehicle traveling north on Lithopolis Road, near Salem Church Road, struck a mother and a girl who were operating a yard sale. .
OSHP Lt Shad Caplinger added that the vehicle hit a sign on Lithopolis Road, continued in the direction of Lithopolis, where it hit the curb, went up the sidewalk and then crashed into a produce stand on Pavement. The car continued to crash into a house and then a tree, where it stopped.
According to Lieutenant Caplinger, a mother and her daughter were at the production counter and both were hit by bullets. The mother is in intensive care, with serious injuries, at Mount Carmel East. The daughter is presumed dead at the scene.
Lieutenant Caplinger said the driver was being treated for minor injuries. The impairment is suspected and under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Fairfield County Prosecutor, the Ohio Investigations Unit, the Bloom Township Fire Department, the Lithopolis Police Department, and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office were on the scene.
