Ghost hunting game that combines paranormal hunter with optional VR announced
While some games, like Between us, took a while to become viral hits, The fear of phasmophobia take off almost immediately. Game streamers flocked to the title in time for Halloween 2020, drawing attention to the game and propelling it into a cult hit. While many are still enjoying The fear of phasmophobia, it may have some competition starting next year.
An upcoming ghost hunting game called Mystical Hunter was announced. The co-op game is being developed by EALoGames, with members of the development team for Shenmue and Shin megami tensei work on it.
A brief trailer has been released for Mystical Hunter, which tells players in advance what kind of terror awaits them when the game hits early access in Q2 2022. Up to four players can join ghost hunting, aided by various paranormal artifacts and tools to help detect – or repel – ghosts.
As The fear of phasmophobia, Mystical Hunter will allow PC players to choose between playing onscreen or wearing a VR headset to fully immerse themselves in the horror. Crossplay between the two gaming styles will also be available, so those of you who don’t have a VR headset won’t be left out. However, the game will also come to consoles with PS4, PS5 and Switch versions already planned. Currently, there are no plans to combine PSVR from PlayStation 4, but PS5 PSVR headset currently in development could be another matter, whenever it comes to fruition.
At the moment, it’s unclear whether players intend to destroy the vengeful spirits they encounter or simply record them and escape, like The fear of phasmophobia. However, it should be noted that players will face locked doors and blocked passageways, so finding environments for tools and solving puzzles can come into play.
It will be interesting to see if The fear of phasmophobia and Mystical Hunter can coexist, or if one overcomes the other. When The fear of phasmophobia not as popular as it was a year ago, the game is still receiving regular content updates to add new locations and spirits. It recently received a Halloween update and it is speculated that a The fear of phasmophobia will get a Christmas update in the near future. Although players will likely be intrigued by a new spooky experience, it will be important to Mystical Hunter to launch with enough content to keep players busy.
While some major studios continue to produce AAA horror games, as with Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, smaller game developers are also working hard in bringing horror to players’ consoles and PCs. Amidst the recent return of Danger frame to the west, headlines like Wrong us bring Silent Hill viberation back to life, and now Mystical Hunter, there will be plenty for horror game enthusiasts to enjoy in the future.
