German developer NUKKLEAR is collaborating with Funcom on the upcoming MMO Dune

Remember Dune? No, not an HBO channel but a channel produced by Funcom? Looks like they’re getting help from German developer NUKKLEAR to work on the upcoming survival MMO Dune.
In one press release today, NUKKLEAR GmbH announced they are teaming up with Funcom to help develop the latters’ upcoming survival game set in the Dune universe. The studio is taking on the role of co-developer, working alongside Funcom to help “realize the expanded scope of the title.” In addition to the development cooperation news, the German developer also said that they have received a grant from the German federal government to help expand their operations and carry out more projects.
Funcom announced that they had acquired the Dune franchise a few years ago, stating that their intention was to make a Dune game like popular Conan Exiles position. The press release states that after Funcom received Tencent’s investment, the game expanded in scope, so it was necessary to bring up NUKKLEAR.
We still don’t know too much about Sand dunes The MMO, other than that it will be an open-world survival game, with Funcom CEO Rui Casais declaring in the release that this is the “most ambitious project” their team has taken on. They also claim that the team is benefiting from NUKKLEAR’s expertise in “vehicle-based gameplay”, which one can glean a bit of what the development studio is bringing to the survival MMO. While the release date may still be a long way off, the addition of NUKKLEAR could excite fans looking forward to a future trip through the desert of Arrakis.
