‘Geppi Gems’ Art Review: An Archive of Classic Comics and Collections on Display at the Library of Congress

Before the superhero boom of the late 1960s, there were many other genres of comics: westerns, sports, horror, sci-fi, and funny animals all featured in this. (Not the romance, though.) There was even an oversized reproduction of the cover of an “all-sport” issue of Creepy, a black and white horror comic founded in 1964 and published serialization until 2016. The show’s earliest items were newspaper comics. from the 1930s, including a Popeye magazine the show described as a “comic backing”.
