What is MiHoYo doing with all that The Genshin effect money? Make more games of course!

We learned that the Shanghai-based developer has been working on other projects for a while, like Its CEO said that it hopes to “release a new product every three to four years.” We now have some details on what its next project might be.

MiHoYo was reeling a new game studio in Montreal, with the aim of “creating a brand new AAA open-world action-adventure game with shooter-based gameplay in a living and breathing paranormal world.” That’s a lot to absorb, but at its core, it doesn’t sound all that different from Genshin Impact, aside from its focus on shooting and with a “mystical” tag that makes it feel like you’re hunting demons and analogies in a modern setting as opposed to imaginary beasts and monsters.

Job listings on LinkedIn confirmed that this project will be a new IP, leveraging facilities and providing first and third person perspectives. It’s also been described as “variety,” but that should come as no surprise.

And, in case you thought that the CEO’s wish for a virtual world of one billion people by 2030 was just a tongue-in-cheek (overconfident), it’s not. Every job description includes that hopeful vision, and there’s little doubt that MiHoYo is leaning on this upcoming game to make it visible to a wider pool of players.
