Nvidia is one of the largest technology companies in the world, a powerhouse of computer innovation, and the creator of some of the most widely used graphics cards on the market. The company has also been interested in other areas and last year, Nvidia buys British chip maker Arm for $40 billion, with the aim of looking at artificial intelligence. However, the deal has attracted the attention of not only rival companies that use Arm, such as Samsung and Apple, but also the EU and UK governments. And now the Federal Trade Commission has taken steps to prevent the takeover all together.

According to a press release on the FTC website, the antitrust and consumer protection agency has moved to sue Nvidia in an attempt to stop the acquisition of Arm. The reasoning behind the block has to do with the idea of one company essentially having control over one of the largest chipmakers, a company that many influential companies use in their products. The FTC argues that taking control of an essential company on which many major customers depend would give Nvidia the power to “undermine competitors” and risk compromising product quality from manufacturers. Arm-based businesses.

It’s not just the FTC that messed up the merger. At the beginning of the year, Microsoft and Google dispute Nvidia’s takeover of Arm, they themselves have called on the Federal Trade Commission to stop this. FTC Director of Competition Holly Vedova said that the deal would “distort” Arm’s motives if the GPU tech giant had full control of it, and would “undermine” rival companies in a way. “unfair” way. The administrative trial will begin on August 9, 2022.

Even though the company is being sued by the FTC, Nvidia continues to push ahead with many of its products. Most recently, it is rumor that RTX 3090 Ti is being prepared, which should be a slight boost on the RTX 3090 that launched last September. On top of that, Nvidia seems to be looking to move on to the next generation of GPUs, with speculations that their flagship 4000 series could launch as early as mid-2022.

Aside from all that, technology shortages due to semiconductor supply problems are still plaguing the industry. With Intel CEO believes deficit could continue until 2023, hobby of Nvidia, as well as AMD and Intel, are still struggling to get their latest products into the hands of consumers.
