Free agency MLB: Javier Báez and Detroit Tigers close to a six-year deal, according to reports

NS Detroit Tigers and freestyle midfielder Javier Báez are completing a six-year contract, reporting Jon Morosi of the MLB . Network.

Although some on the team have played other positions recently, Báez entered the tournament as part of a group that hailed five star-caliber free agents along with Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Trevor’s story and Marcus Semien. If every reported deal goes into effect, only Correa and Story remain unsigned with the CBA deadline fast approaching.

Báez, 28 years old, was the last one Block‘first pick (in 2011, 9th overall) before Theo Epstein took over the North Side and spent eight seasons with the Cubs before being traded to Mets by the end of last year. There are probably no all-or-nothing players left in the professional league. When he’s on the field, he’ll be playing as an MVP in the hitter’s box, on bases and defense. He’s one of the best video players and fun to watch. When he’s having a hard time, he can look pretty bad.

In general, however, the result will be a positive one. Báez posted 6.4 WAR in 2018, 6.6 in 2019 and 4.6 in 2021 (he’s pretty bad in 2020, but that can be forgiven for a multitude of reasons).

Last season, Báez hit .265 / .319 / .494 (117 OPS+) with 18 doubles, two triplets, 31 own goals, 87 RBIs, 80 runs and 18 robberies. Powering up with his shot, he has an arm plus long range plus at short distances, but he’s going to have a hard time when he throws the ball away. He is also extremely adept at crafting difficult cards.

For the Tigers, this marks a major upgrade in the premium position compared to what it used to be Niko Goodrum, Harold Castro, Willie Castro and Short Zack previous season. According to Football-reference.com’s above-average wins, there are only Phillies and Angel had less of a breather last season in all of baseball.

Note here: The Tigers are said to be one of the favorites to land Correa ahead of this season, reuniting him with the former Astros manager AJ Hinch. This seems to take them out of the race, even though we’ve seen them go crazy before.
