OAKLAND (BCN) — Retired San Leandro Police Officer Jason Fletcher entered a not responsible plea Thursday morning in Oakland to criminal charges in the death of a man at a Walmart store in April of final 12 months.
Fletcher was charged in September with voluntary manslaughter for capturing Steven Taylor to loss of life on the afternoon of April 18, 2020, after Taylor allegedly tried to shoplift a bat and a tent from the shop.
Fewer than 40 seconds handed between the time Fletcher entered the shop and the time he shot and killed Taylor.
The costs towards Fletcher are the primary towards a police officer by District Legal professional Nancy O’Malley in her time as Alameda County’s prime prosecutor.
O’Malley has not too long ago determined to not run for re-election. Attorneys for Fletcher weren’t instantly out there for remark late Thursday morning.
