Former Rangers and Scotland defender Ally Dawson has died on the age of 63.

Dawson made 315 appearances for Rangers throughout a 12-year spell at Ibrox.

His household stated in an announcement: “It’s with a lot unhappiness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ally Dawson following a protracted battle with sickness.

“To us, Ally was a loving husband, father, son and brother however we all know he meant loads to so many others.

Dawson joined Rangers on the age of 16 in 1975 after leaving Johnstone Excessive Faculty in Renfrewshire.

The complete-back went on to captain Rangers and received two Scottish Cups and 4 League Cups, whereas gaining 5 Scotland caps underneath Jock Stein within the early Eighties.

Rangers stated they had been “extraordinarily saddened” to listen to of their former participant’s passing.

Dawson moved to Blackburn in 1987 and spent three years at Ewood Park, earlier than spells with Limerick and Airdrie and a stint as a participant/supervisor in Malta.

The previous defender was later a youth coach with Rangers after which labored for charity Road Soccer Scotland.
