The partnership highlights the growing importance of semiconductors for the automotive industry. Automakers in previous years mostly used chips with older designs and left the sourcing to their parts suppliers, who would buy chips and make them into automotive parts car, such as power windows or dashboard screens. Usually, car executives don’t know much about the origins of these chips, say automotive consultants.
