Fnatic removes JW from active roster, is going international – CS:GO News

Jesper “JW” Wecksell, longtime member and main AWPer of Fnatic, has been removed from the team’s active roster.

The three-time champion and former main MVP became one of the most notable names on the professional level of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive while spending most of his career to date with Fnatic. Entering the pro scene in 2013, JW signed with Fnatic and that same year won a major tournament. In the following years, JW won many titles and three times ranked in the top 10 CSGO players in the world.

The Swedish esports organization posted a video on Twitter with the announcement in which Andreas “Samuelsson” Samuelsson, the team’s head coach, expressed gratitude to JW.

“A lot can happen because Jesper is a human being, a worker, a teammate, and an ambassador for a company like Fnatic,” said Samuelsson.

JW’s three-year contract with Fnatic will end in early 2022.

The organization announced the formation of JW on Twitter in parallel with its plans to rebuild into an international team. With the departure of Maikil “Golden” Selim in early July, JW’s departure left the team with only three active players: Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson, Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin and Jack “Jackinho” Ström Mattsson. No statement on the futures of these remaining players has been made.

The decision to rebuild the team and find international talent may stem from the team’s poor record through 2021. Fnatic started the year in a respectable 10th place in the world, but dropped to 47th in July. The last four tier-one tournaments Fnatic attended have had only lackluster performances, with the team failing to make it past the earliest stages of the event. The once dominant organization has found itself at the lowest retention period in its history.

The team is scheduled to compete in the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 14 tournament. Replacements for JW and Golden have yet to be widely announced, although new players may have been picked up behind the scenes.
