By this point, I think most veteran MMO players are already getting ready for a bit of a stir whenever a new expansion comes out. People decide to join for the first time or come back after a long time, and queues tend to be longer – in part because some people refuse to sign out.
We all know how it plays out, but it looks like Square Enix is preparing for things to get a little tougher with the launch of Endwalker. The Final Fantasy XIV development team posted a sizable post about the possibility of server congestion last night – including typical content, of course, but also noting some issues unique to the era of the game. we. These include things like global semiconductor shortages that prevent them from adding more Worlds to the game. That’s not to say more Worlds won’t be added as time goes on, it all just depends on them being able to get a server for that to happen.
Of course, another area of concern they mentioned is the fact that the game is “experiencing a record number of active users,” meaning they think more people will try to get in on the open. wider than previous games. This isn’t necessarily a bad problem to encounter, but it is compounded by a lack of hardware.
The good news is that they’ve got some system to work around with everything. One of them is the ability for players to log into less crowded Worlds on their Data Center. This was implemented in 5.57 and can be accessed by selecting “Visit Another World Server” in the character selection menu. The system will also favor paid users over free trial users.
Of course, character creation will continue to be limited whenever servers are congested, but that’s not really new. Oh, and the auto-logout system has been updated to do a better job of kicking people who don’t actually play the game.
As noted, last night’s post was quite large, so it’s a bit more informative than we’ve covered here – though, here are the highlights. If you want to read the whole thing, it can found on site XIV.
On a more interesting note., the Final Fantasy XIV team uploaded a Version 1.0 trailer – it was the original game’s launch, before A Realm Reborn. No, we don’t know why, but if you’ve never seen it – or just want to see how far XIV’s trailer graphics have come since, or… I don’t know… let’s compare the lore between it and the Endwalker trailer – You can watch it below.
