Final Fantasy 16’s party system is very different from FF15

The main party of Noctis, Prompto, Gladiolus and Ignis are inseparable and the story is seen from their collective point of view. These four men ride together, fight together, and support each other through their various character arcs.

Aside from moments when the story dictates they break up for a while, there’s always at least two of them on screen. You can start side quests with Noctis organically, and all sorts of quirky interactions can spawn from within the party itself. Final Fantasy 15 is defined by a very small group of recurring characters, and none is more important than the gang in their motorized regalia.

The Final Fantasy 16 party is in flux

Clive isn’t stupid enough to travel alone, although he doesn’t feel committed to any group now that his nation is believed to have fallen. through Final Fantasy 16, Clive is accompanied by other people. Gameplay was later patched into the base game, with players able to purchase upgrades that allowed switching characters in battle. Considering how deeply integrated team attacks and contextual party actions were, this seemed like the logical conclusion Final Fantasy 15‘s party-centric fun.


If Final Fantasy 16 will follow in these footsteps is not yet clear. There’s ample room for short sequences or even DLC episodes in which players take control of significant figures in the world, especially other dominants. Currently, however, players can only accompany their AI allies into battle. Whether there will be strategies or orders that players can set as follows Kingdom Hearts is currently unclear.
