Final Fantasy 16 release date: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

Square Enix has earned its reputation with the Final Fantasy series, which means Final Fantasy 16 there are big shoes to fill. Luckily, it’s had years of development and input from some of the studio’s best-known talents. However, the news is still pretty slim and players can’t help but wonder about the release date. Plus, since we’re in between console generations, it’s nice to know what platforms FF16 is releasing for. What is the scoop?
Final Fantasy 16 release date for PS5
Square Enix has yet to set a release date for Final Fantasy 16. Officially, it looks like the game might not even release in 2022. The latest update from producer Naoki Yoshida promises ” The game’s next big reveal” is due in the spring of 2022, meaning that the launch date is still at least a few months away.
However, there’s one fan theory that the game could be out very soon – this year, in fact. One of the Easter Eggs in the introduction of PlayStation Showcase from September 2021 seems to indicate a June 16, 2022 release date for Final Fantasy 16. Seen in a subway station, a sign briefly reads “Valisthea 06.16” before disappearing from the screen. As we know from Official website of the game, Validthea is the setting for FF16, so 06-16 implies that is the first day we will explore it.
Is Final Fantasy 16 coming to PS4, Xbox or Switch?
Final Fantasy 16 will be a timer console exclusive to PlayStation 5. That means after a specific amount of time the game could release for other platforms. There is a possibility that Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PC, but the same is unlikely for platforms like Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch. For all accounts, the game will not be released for PS4.
In fact, the PC was mentioned in the game’s initial reveal. Since then, however, Square Enix has reverted to referring to the game as simply a PlayStation exclusive. It’s safe to assume that if you want to play soon, you’ll need a PS5. With that said, a PC release is not out of the question. Final Fantasy 7 Remake has finally made its way to PC, even if it has a few performance issues.
For the Nintendo Switch, that’s unlikely. Nintendo’s Hybrid Handset no complaints to run FF7 Remake, so it’s very unlikely to be powerful enough to run a game specifically designed for PS5. However, with the advent of cloud game streaming, it could technically be possible. But until we get confirmation from the developers, it’s best not to get your hopes up.
