Final Fantasy 14 removes gender restrictions on the 5 different outfits that were previously restricted, including butler and maid sets.
Final Fantasy 14’s the next expansion is imminent and in preparation for the big day, Square Enix has released Preliminary Patch Notes for Endwalker. Buried in a flurry of information is an unexpected gift: the critically-acclaimed MMORPG has removed the gender restrictions on five popular skins.
In Final Fantasy 14, certain costumes can only be worn by male or female characters. With Endwalker’s released, five of these skins – three previously only for female characters and two for men – will be able to equip characters regardless of their gender.
Spring dress, faithful maid outfit, and innovative ao dai Bustier, previously worn only by female characters, will now be able to be worn by men. On the other hand, Loyal Butler Outfits and Premium Outfits will be able to be worn by female characters, where previously only male characters could equip them. These restrictions are being lifted for all of the individual items that make up the apparel, including hats, gloves, boots, and pants. These skins are now available for all the characters in Final Fantasy 14 sex discrimination.
These skins join an ever-evolving line of gear where gender restrictions no longer exist in FF14. Previously, the costumes and dresses for characters from the Eternal Connection wedding events had their gender removed, as did the bunny costumes from the Golden Saucer.
2B dress from Nier Cross raids are also implemented in the game as gender neutral, and earlier this year, Final Fantasy 14 surprised fans by revealing male Viera–A previously playable female-only race option – and promises a male-only Hrothgar female pick in the future.
Final Fantasy 14 Players were excited when they saw the gender restrictions removed from these items. Many players have created custom designs for these outfits for the male characters, especially Thavnairian. Busier. The gradual removal of gender-locked content is a great step forward include more genders in Final Fantasy 14. By allowing characters of any gender to wear these skins, Square Enix has given players more ways to express themselves.
Most players hope Final Fantasy 14 continue this trend. There are still many gender-locked outfits in the game, and though Endwalker is taking great strides towards inclusivity, players will not be truly satisfied, nor truly free to express themselves, until the restrictions are removed from FF14 total.
Final Fantasy 14 Available now on PC, PS4 and PS5. NS Endwalker Expansion launches on December 7th.

It looks like the version of Godfall coming out as a free PlayStation Plus game in December 2021 isn’t the complete package.
