FFXIV No sound in game Fix Windows 10 and 11

An annoying error is making FFXIV the sound will disappear when playing on Windows 10 and 11 PC. People who find their PC sound working on desktop but disappearing while in game will be disappointed, mainly because the sound works in other games. How to fix sound disappearing in FFXIV PC on Windows 10 and 11

FFXIV No Sound Correction

The bug with no sound in FFXIV on PC has an easy fix, but it’s not so easy to spot. Those affected by the issue will likely find that the sound works on the desktop and even in other games. Sadly, the problem will also refuse to resolve even after restarting the game and PC multiple times.

Players will probably try everything they can think of to get the sound back. Unfortunately, however, these won’t work:

  • Reinstall Windows
  • Reinstall the audio driver
  • Reinstall Final Fantasy XIV

Unfortunately, all of these common fixes are a waste of time in this situation. Instead, the fix for sound disappearing in FFXIV is just two button presses.

For some reason, on some systems running Final Fantasy XIV in fullscreen mode exclusively mutes the sound until the player exits the game. Then the audio should work on the PC as it should. We noticed that this seemed to happen when the player was using HDMI audio on the Nvidia GPU. However, it can also affect PCs with other configurations.

To fix the problem, just run the game in Borderless or Windowed screen mode. After switching the Monitor Mode, restart the game and the sound will be restored.

This issue also occurs with some other games. We especially happened to us in Dark Souls 3. We’re not sure about the cause, but luckily it’s relatively rare.
