FCPS settles lawsuit with parents, disability rights groups

Plaintiff Amanda Mills said that when her son was in kindergarten at FCPS, he was held in a makeshift box made of exercise mats more than 300 times. While he was placed in a box to protect himself from self-injury or harm, she said, he would return home with bruises because he would beat himself up while in seclusion. Mills’ son, who communicates with an iPad, will also have the device taken away when he is isolated, leaving him without the need to express his needs.
